If i had more time i would of liked to have shot in more locations especially for the flashbacks, as we really had to use the college to our advantage as our group members lived so far apart.
As we had lost some of our footage we couldnt add in as many scenes as we would of liked to as we didnt get enough time to film a lot more.
I would of liked to have produced a digipak using more of photoshops effects as well as use the 6 piece template .
It would of been really interesting to find more views on what people thought of our song choice and whether or not they thought we had done the song justice.

Update
This will be the last update.
thankfully we managed to get everything done by our deadlines, although we are missing question 3 of our evaluation.
I really enjoyed creating our music video, and i am very proud of how it turned out and the effort my group members put in

Our Official Version of Dry Your Eyes
This is our official version of Dry Your Eyes by The Streets music video. Hope you enjoy.
Evaluation
I have personally answered question 1 in the evaluation.
iIn what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products.
Question 2 will be answered by one of my group members Elizabeth,
1 of our group members where not able to produce question 3 .
Question 4 was answered by Humayra
DigiPak & ad
i decided to change my idea for the digipak as i ran out of time so instead of going for the 6 part template i only done a 4 part template, i wanted the whole scene to go across which i did succed in doing. Where i was going to do different angles i decided that it would make it to boring and look repetitive. I wanted each image to be in black and white to help show depression and loneliness as well as heartbreak. I did change the colour about to see if it would look better in colour or whether it would look good to have that orangey/redy tinge to it, but black and white was definately the most effective.

Company logo
This is the final draft of my own version of our company logo, i decided to use an iris with " A2 View " by using the word view it helped tie in the iris to show what people see and creating a new look on things.
Props used
We used 2 major props in 2 different locations, 1 being the single red rose which was used in 1 of the flash backs this really showed early love and romance that came along in the relationship.
The other prop was a beer look a like in actual fact its a mixture of hot and cold water with a teabag and sparkling water, from having Dan alone in a pub with a beer portrays a solitary intreverted individual.

Update
We filmed quite a bit today, in 4 different locations the pub, cafe, road and by the pond. Luckily we got permission from the people that worked in the locations we chose. The waitress at the pub helped make a beer looking type of drink using warm, cold water a teabag and sparkling water. We used a single red rose which worked really well for the flash back. Now we are just going to finish off editing our first draft as well as get the animatic finished.

update
We lost all our footage yesterday and had to start filming everything again. We tried to film today but it started to rain heavily and majority of our shots are outside, we done quite a bit of editing today and are going to continue tomorrow, as well as filming.
Magazine Advert
This is a sketch of how i ruffley want the magazine advert to look, i wanted to match the digipak to the advert as this will show that it is from the artist without even having to read the advert. I really liked having an outside image as it ties in with the music video as well as shows depression on the way i am going to shoot it.
Digi pak sketch
I have sketched a ruff idea on how i want the digi pak to look like, i tried a few ideas but i thought this was the best 1 to go with. I wanted to push across a very depressed alone feel. The top 3 pictures are of 1 scene as the bottom 3 pictures are of different angles of the same image.

Update
We tried filming today but we had a few problems, we should be filming tomorrow at around 2. We are pushing it for time but we only need a few more shots, i also need to take pictures of the boy for the digipak of our album as well as for the magazine advert. We also have split off into pairs for editing and we are both going to produce different versions of the music video.

Analysis of Album Cover
Drake - Take Care
Drake is quite a new artist to the music industry, as this is his 2nd album to be released. The album is quite a slow depressing feel it although he does have 1 or 2 upbeat tracks such as "the motto" compared to his first album which where all quite upbeat tracks. The album cover is really simple although very effective. Having Drake in quite fancy clothing wearing alot of gold jewellery, sitting at a table with a gold goblet and a candle in a gold candle holder, shows that he has reached the "high life" which he was not use to before, the gold goblet is a very good status symbol. This shows quite a confident cocky person showing that he has made it in life, yet Drakes facial expression is quite depressed which you wouldnt expect from someone showing that he has made it in life. This portrays that being rich and famous isnt all it is cracked up to be, with a few of his songs you will hear quite a few of the problems he has faced, especially with women from his past. Drake is also sitting alone this shows that he became succesful on his own and that he does not trust anyone, especially since the lyrics in some of his song are " i dont trust these hoes at all".
Rihanna- Russian Roulette
This shows quite a dark side of rihanna, this is when she went through a dramatic fashion change, as well as music. Her music started to have quite a dark feel to it compared to her previous music when she was known as a fun loving girl. This also shows that rihanna has become a women rather to her long brown hair with her unique smile. Rihanna is showing quite a lot of skin making this image quite 'sexy'. Using reds, blacks and greys gives a really dark evil environment to the image as well as the R looks like it is made out of blades, again exhaggerating the dark evil concept. Rihanna's also covered in barbed wire showing a huge fashion statement, maybe even a religious statement due to the fact jesus had barbed wire around his head when he was pinned to the cross. This made rihanna a great fashion icon
Location idea's

We have also got a bench and a street where both of the flashbacks will be shot, we want the flashbacks to be shot in simple places so the focus is on the couple and not its surroundings.
2nd Day of Filming
The 2nd day of filming we had a few problems in which we all had different idea's on where to film the flash back, aswell as changing outfits so it didnt look like it was all shot on the same day. We managed to overcome this problem and shoot some really good footage. We had a few problems with having people walk through the shots and cars pull up and park, which we had to wait till we could start shooting again.
We got some really good shots and all participated well, the girl in the video done exceptionally well and made a good contribution to ideas to.

Costume
Boy
For the boys clothing, it will have to be very casual and even a little untidy. A pair of jeans and a hooded jacket is perfect !
We wanted a jacket with a lot of pockets, as through out the video the boy will be putting his hands in out of the pockets to show depression and frustration
We are going for quite a baggy cut, instead of skinny jeans as this will portray the genre quite aswell as show a casual untidy look.

Girl
We want the girl to be the opposite to the boy but with quite a similar style, such as the girl in denim skinny jeans and a plain fitted t-shirt. This will still show the genre of the music aswell as link in with the boy as they are both quite casual, although the girl will look more clean cut.
lyrics analysis
In one single moment your whole life can turn 'round
I stand there for a minute starin' straight into the ground
Lookin' to the left slightly, then lookin' back down
World feels like it's caved in - proper sorry frown
Please let me show you where we could only just be, for us
I can change and I can grow or we could adjust
The wicked thing about us is we always have trust
We can even have an open relationship, if you must
I look at her she stares almost straight back at me
But her eyes glaze over like she's lookin' straight through me
Then her eyes must have closed for what seems an eternity
When they open up she's lookin' down at her feet
Dry your eyes mate
I know it's hard to take but her mind has been made up
There's plenty more fish in the sea
Dry your eyes mate
I know you want to make her see how much this pain hurts
But you've got to walk away now
It's over
So then I move my hand up from down by my side
It's shakin', my life is crashin' before my eyes
Turn the palm of my hand up to face the skies
Touch the bottom of her chin and let out a sigh
'Cause I can't imagine my life without you and me
There's things I can't imagine doin', things I can't imagine seein'
It weren't supposed to be easy, surely
Please, please, I beg you please
She brings her hands up towards where my hands rested
She wraps her fingers round mine with the softness she's blessed with
She peels away my fingers, looks at me and then gestures
By pushin' my hand away to my chest, from hers
Dry your eyes mate
I know it's hard to take but her mind has been made up
There's plenty more fish in the sea
Dry your eyes mate
I know you want to make her see how much this pain hurts
But you've got to walk away now
It's over
And I'm just standin' there, I can't say a word
'Cause everythin's just gone
I've got nothin'
Absolutely nothin'
Tryin' to pull her close out of bare desperation
Put my arms around her tryin' to change what she's sayin'
Pull my head level with hers so she might engage in
Look into her eyes to make her listen again
I'm not gonna fuckin', just fuckin' leave it all now
'Cause you said it'd be forever and that was your vow
And you're gonna let our things simply crash and fall down
You're well out of order now, this is well out of town
She pulls away, my arms are tightly clamped round her waist
Gently pushes me back and she looks at me straight
Turns around so she's now got her back to my face
Takes one step forward, looks back, and then walks away
Dry your eyes mate
I know it's hard to take but her mind has been made up
There's plenty more fish in the sea
Dry your eyes mate
I know you want to make her see how much this pain hurts
But you've got to walk away now
It's over
I know in the past I've found it hard to say
Tellin' you things, but not tellin' straight
But the more I pull on your hand and say
The more you pull away
Dry your eyes mate
I know it's hard to take but her mind has been made up
There's plenty more fish in the sea
Dry your eyes mate
I know you want to make her see how much this pain hurts
But you've got to walk away now.
The lyrics show that he wants her back but knows he has to move on, it has a really depressed feel to the lyrics, as well as portrays alienation and seclusion.
Our music video uses flash backs this will show that he wants her back and thinking about all the good times they have had. We also film him on his own alot, with a depressed frustrated expression. We used quite a few night shots which will really emphasise a sad, lonely , depressed factor.

Weekly update
16/11/11
We got a few outdoor shots, we couldnt do alot of filming as the girl that will be in the video was not here. We chose to film by a pond the weather worked really well as it was a dry night. We had a few problems with setting up the camera and chosing what angles to shoot from, aswell as getting a smooth pan shot.
We filmed at night which worked well if our concept of the video, as it is quite a depressed feel to the song, we are hoping to start filming the flashbacks within a week.

Auteur Theory
Johan Renck
Born 5 december 1966 in Uppsala, he has directed music videos for Madonna, Kylie Minogue, Beyonce Knowles as well as All Saints.
Johan Renck made a number of "landmark" music videos and worked with major artists which are listed above.
In 2006, Johan Renck had several MVPA nominations, for his videos for Madonna´s “Hung Up” and for Robbie Williams “Trippin”.
In The Gunn Report Johan Renck was listed as the 25th most rewarded director of commercials
Johan Renck is quite a universal director as he has very different visions for each artist such as Kylie Minogue. With ' Love at first sight' Johan Renck went for a very modern style at the time it was shot, as it had a very animated background rather than having an actual narrative to the song.
Beyonce " Me Myself and I " had a narrative to the music video compared to Kylie Minogue's " Love at first sight". With the video it portrayed Beyonce as independent as well as getting revenge and catching out her partner that cheated on her.
Me Myself and I is a really good music video by the way he portrayed Beyonce as being the strong and independent women rather than a lonely unhappy women. This shows that no matter the situation but how you narrate the story and even by the camera angles you can show who has the power.
The Streets "Dry Your Eye's Mate" is actually the song we have chosen so it was quite useful to see other music videos the director has produced, it's surprising to see how versatile Johan Renck is.

Star Analysis
Run D.M.C
Run D.M.C is an american hip-hop group from Queens, New York. The group was founded by Joseph "Run" Simmons, Darryl "D.M.C." McDaniels, and Jason "Jam-Master Jay" Mizell. The group is known as one of the most influential acts in the history of hip-hop culture.
Run D.M.C became the most well known hip-hop acts in the 1980's andere the first group in their genre to have a Gold record and be nominated for a Grammy Award.
Fashion.
Run D.M.C are notoriously known for their large gold chains, leather jackets and adidas trainers with no laces. Run D.M.C wore their trainers without laces as in prison you are not allowed laces, making a statement to everyone "My Adidas only bring good news and they are not used as felon shoes".Run D.M.C became well known for promoting adidas in a number of ways from their trainers, tracksuits to t-shirts.
The group's look had been heavily influenced by Mizell's own personal style. When Russell Simmons saw Jay's flashy, yet street b-boy style, he insisted the whole group follow that style.
Genre.
Run D.M.C are known for breaking through to the hip hop industry and changing the style of hip hop from tight clothes to more of a street style. They kept the same type of genre throughout their career although collaborated with Aerosmith which widen their audience and push the boundaries.
Media Reprensentation
Run D.M.C kept the same image through out the media a very street look but postive roll models as they are against violence and kept their lyrics quite light.
The kept the same clothing image through all of the different types of media coverage and made sure the three of them matched sycronizing them not only in music but in fashion. See a heavy gold chain and think of Run D.M.C
Performance
Run D.M.C created a new bond between artists and dj, which something that Salt 'n' Pepper done. This was a brand new look for the 1980's and took off really well, this made their performances more lively and got the audience exicted.
Motifs
Run D.M.C are known for their heavy gold chains n adidas trainers with no laces. Their trainers or sneakers with no laces created a big buzz as there was a statement behind not wearing laces. As Jay Z done his third eye symbol it meant a lot more than just a hand sign, it represented a large group also had the media going crazy on what it actually stood for.
Wearing trainers with no laces as you wernt allowed laces in prison represented a non violent group which a lot of other artists where promoting.
Target Audience
Target audience is between the ages of 16-23 both male and female although i feel they aimed more at the male audience as the songs were quite masculine. This was done by having quite universal lyrics that everyone could either relate to or just like as they were simple songs such as " it's tricky" this was a major hit.

Technical Analysis of 2 music videos
Sir Mix A Lot - Baby Got Back.
i chose this song as it is a similar genre to the type of music we will be using for our music video, as the song is quite unique i thought it would be interesting to analyse the video and see what thought they would put into the creation.
I think this is a good shot as the camera is gradually moving in and introduces the song, as once the camera has zoomed in it opens up the scene, this is a good example of voyeurism as the woman dancing does not know she has an audience until the camera has zoomed in
With this shot it shows that the artist is using self refrentiality, this is a good technique as it is involving the audience, this would show that the song is aimed at you and does not necessarily mean the song is telling a story.
This is a clever shot as it shows two things in one shot and shows what the artist is talking about, this is a smart thing to do as it keeps the audience involved and visually shows what the artist is mentioning.
The music video uses alot of cut to transitions, i think that this worked really well for this type of music video as it shows you everything that is going on in the scene but in individual sections so it directs you on what to focus on .
The music video uses mainly close ups and mid shots rarely ever long shots. This is quite effective as it exaggharates the loud in your face vibe, which is basically what the director wanted to do as it really suits the song.
Ne-Yo - She Got Her Own
Reflection cross fade was used, this is quite a clever shot as it is reflected as well as cross faded and adds an element of the very classic 1 singer with 2 backup singers, this also ties in the black and white effect instead of having the video in colour.
The video uses a lot of fade and cut to transitions, this is a good technique as there are quite a few people used in the video so using cut to and fade transitions will also help to focus on the individual person in each shot.
Using a silhouette shot gives a sense of mystery, intriguing the audience to see what they are not allowed to see.A silhouette shot also ties in the black and white theme well as it is sophisticated and classy, this helps support the lyrics as it is portraying females in a positive light.
Using a close up helps guide the audience on what they should be focusing on. By using a close up it helps support the purpose as well as the lyrics of the song.
Close up of a reflection works well as it shows different variations of shots this will help promote originality. I think that this is something every music video needs so that it can stand out from the rest.
